Writing Prompt 18

The Unexpected

In this week’s writing prompt, I challenge you to do the unexpected. By that, I mean to go against type, throw out the tired tropes, or take a typical or generally accepted idea and flip it. Instead of using words like dark or black to indicate something negative or bad, show something as dark and comforting. Have something horrific happen in broad daylight instead of the terribly overused storm-signaling-impending-doom plot. Doing something unpredictable not only shows your creativity and uniqueness but also catches your reader off-guard; it keeps them interested and your story fresh.
