Meet the Owner

I’m Jamie Aughenbaugh, the Owner of RE:Written. I’m a mom, a writer, an editor, a former writing teacher, an unapologetic weirdo, and a survivor, among other things. The creative spark—that sudden flash of inspiration that strikes whenever, wherever—has been with me since childhood. My father is a weaver of stories and my mother a nurturer of beautiful things. That creative fire also lives in me, their daughter. I was a shy, quiet, introspective child who brooded much and talked little, gazed up at the stars longing to be among them, felt every emotion with great depth, had a passion for learning, and loved music and stories better than most anything. I started writing when I was in junior high. It was often an outlet for thoughts and emotions that I couldn’t otherwise express or cope with and became more so when I struggled with depression into my adult years. In college I wrote a novel and a slew of short stories, I have a master’s degree in English, have taught writing at the college level, and for the past 15+ years, I’ve worked in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) journals publishing in editing and production roles. In March of 2020, I decided to start RE:Written with the goal of helping fellow writers hone their craft. My company is the combination of the creative gifts my parents passed to me—a love of storytelling and the impetus to grow something of my own. I currently live in Alexandria, VA, with my husband, son, and dog. In addition to managing RE:Written, I’m writing a novel, I collect vinyl records and hardcover copies of my favorite books, practice yoga and meditation, occasionally drink tea, and have recently taken up archery.
